Starry Night I'd only met you once or twice casually, But I knew that you'd be his next casualty. He speaks of love because it traps the innocent ones, He says I'm lying 'cuz I know what he has done. He changes purity into doubt, He ruins lives from the inside out. He'll steal your heart; he's willing and he's able, But this Prince Charming comes with a warning label. When he's done with you, you won't have any tears left to cry. You'll be an empty shell, without any strength left to fight. I'll keep on trying to stop him, up until the day I die. I could not stop him; You did not listen to me. He had you in a breadbox, mesmerized and clueless, And all the rest of us wondered how he could do this. I saw your naivete, your eyes so blind with trust, That you could not see, his motives moved by lust. I'm not sure that you ever really knew, Until that night, just how much he wanted you. He looked so pure in your virgin eyes, That when it happened it must have been quite a surprise. When he was done with you, you didn't have any tears left to cry. You were an empty shell, without any strength left to fight. I'll keep on trying to stop him, up until the day I die. I could not stop him; You did not listen to me. Stop counting all the scars he gave you, Each impure touch stabbed you like a knife. You wanted to see the stars, the heavens, But heaven knows one starry night can change your life. Now you sit there in a catatonic state, Now I wish I didn't have this prophetic trait, You were not meant to be a trophy to his wall, But now it's too late to see his mask of innocence fall. *** Copyright2000 Random Reflections Written by Esther Mathison, all rights reserved
